The story of the creation of the Botanical Garden Hryshko is closely linked to the history of creation of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Despite all the obstacles, even at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the Botanical Garden team managed to collect about 1050 species of plants and 1000 taxonizados plant outdoors. During the occupation of Kiev by the German fascist invaders, most plants were lost, but the Garden restoration began in March 1944. In July of the same year, the Botanical Garden has received the status of an independent branch of the National Academy of Sciences and its world-famous botanist, creator, MM Grishko.

The Botanic Gardens are one of the main gardens of Europe in terms of many collections of plants available, the scale of the area and the level of scientific research on acclimatization of plants, dendrology parks and research.

The garden has a magnificent rose garden, one of the best collections of orchids in Europe, a large collection of trees and shrubs. In the spring, visitors can see huge lilac (more of 200 species), magnolias, Japanese peony trees and more.
